Advice, Information and Support Service
Aberdeen Cyrenians Advice, Information and Support Service was established in 2012 with further funding being awarded in 2013.  The aim of the service is to provide Advice, Information and Support to prevent homelessness and put measures in place to stop the cycle of homelessness.  The Support is delivered in two ways via our Drop In service and the Resettlement Service.

Drop In service
The Drop In Service provides information, advice and support to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  The resettlement workers are experienced in dealing with a wide variety of issues that can impact on an individual accessing or sustaining permanent accommodation.

Advice is offered in various different forms and can include:

  • Advice on housing and homeless issues;
  • Advice on benefits
  • Advocacy and support
  • Assessment and access to Street Alternatives Service
  • Assessment for food parcels and clothing
  • Assistance with formal appeals
  • Support to access furniture
  • Referrals to more appropriate agencies

No appointments are necessary and we work on first come first served basis.  At times due to the high demand for the service you may be asked to wait in reception where you will be able to access tea and coffee facilities while you wait.

“The Resettlement workers are encouraging and check on my individual progress. They are informative, useful, supportive, and friendly.”

Resettlement Service

Our resettlement service works alongside the Local Authority housing and homeless services to provide support to individuals who are making the transition from temporary to settled permanent accommodation. The service receives referrals from Aberdeen City Council on behalf of those who are aged 16 and over and in need of practical tenancy set up and support in sustaining a permanent tenancy. On receiving a referral the Service User is allocated a resettlement worker who will work alongside them to achieve the goals that have been agreed during the assessment process.

The support is provided on a 1-1 basis in a variety of settings and can involve:

  • Accessing furniture and decoration materials
  • Budgeting and debt advice
  • Setting up of utilities
  • Practical skills advice
  • Managing and applying for relevant benefits
  • Support to attend appointments
  • Referrals to other agencies for wider support
  • Emotional support through the transition of change

The resettlement team provide tailored support aimed at ensuring that individuals are settled, secure and equipped to manage their tenancy successfully.
