Aberdeen Cyrenians

Christmas and Beyond

WebsiteImage_WinterAppealWe need your help.

Each year Aberdeen Cyrenians’ Street Alternatives project serves over 5,500 hot meals, provides shower and laundry facilities, and offers advice, information and support to people who are affected by homelessness.

There are a number of different ways you can help:

Make a donation and the Garfield Weston Foundation will double it!

From midday on 27th November – midday 4 December any donations you make via the Big Give Christmas Challenge website will be doubled by the Garfield Weston Foundation.

So you donate a meal and they’ll donate another, plus if you are a taxpayer we can also receive a further 25% of your donation.

Donate here: https://secure.thebiggive.org.uk/project/aberdeencyrenians

This is how your donation will help:

£6

It costs on average £6 to provide a hot meal and a warm dining room where some of the city’s most vulnerable individuals can relax and enjoy a welcoming atmosphere. When you are homeless you soon realise how such a simple thing can be taken for granted.

£4

A further £4 covers the cost of providing showers and laundry. Towels, toiletries, and laundry detergent are all on hand. You might be surprised that the stereotypical ‘homeless person’ is not often who you will see at Street Alternatives, many of the service users take great pride in their appearance. Being homeless doesn’t also mean losing your dignity.

£16

For approx. £16 an hour we can ensure that a trained Resettlement Worker is on hand at every session to provide advice, information and support. While Street Alternatives meets basic needs our aim is to support service users to improve their situation; gain permanent accommodation, address the underlying causes of homelessness, and move forward with their lives.
