Fundraising Events

Each year Aberdeen Cyrenians generates around £100,000 from fundraising events.  These are very important to the sustainability of some of our services and we hope you will support the organisation by getting involved in some of these.

The following events take place annually:

Sleepout

The Sleepout is Aberdeen Cyrenians flagship event, and has been very successful in supporting and challenging members of our community to take on the experience of sleeping rough.

Most important it is a vital source of fundraising and raising awareness which helps allow us to continue supporting vulnerable, homeless people in our community.

Baker Hughes 10k (May)

 

Each year Aberdeen Cyrenians take part in the Baker Hughes 10k; encouraging our many supporters to get involved as participants or stewards to help raise funds for the organisations or to help ensure the event goes ahead with the right support.

In 2013 Aberdeen Cyrenians raised over £5,600 through this event due to supporter participation and the generosity of their sponsors.

Harvest Festival (Sep/Oct)

Aberdeen Cyrenians annual Harvest Festival begins in September.  Every year we feed hundreds of homeless people; whether this is through two course, hot meals, four times weekly at our Street Alternatives project or our carefully prepared food parcels.

Harvest is extremely important to Aberdeen Cyrenians and our service users.  Our ability to continue to provide this service is dependant on the donations we receive during this event.  We receive donations of food and essentials from local businesses, churches, schools throughout Aberdeen City and Shire and from the local community.  It sustains us and our service users throughout the year and through particularly important and busy times for our staff and volunteers.

If you would like to make a Harvest donation to the organisation you can.  All that we ask is that, if possible, you can provide us notice before you drop off any donations to our Summer Street Head Office.  However, if you do have a donation but are unable to drop it off at Summer Street please get in touch anyway, we may be able to collect it.  Below are some of the items we desperately need to fill up our cupboards.

Tins; Tomatoes, Beans, Spaghetti, Fruit, Tuna/Fish, Soup, Puddings, Meat, Vegetables

Condiments, Cooking Sauces, CupaSoups, Soup Mix, Rice, Pasta, Tea/Coffee/Hot Chocolate, Powdered/UHT Milk, Sugar/Salt/Pepper/Spices, Biscuits/Long Life Snacks, Instant Noodles, Tomato/Garlic Purees, Stock Cubes, Lentils/Pulses

Christmas Appeal (Nov/Dec)

 

Christmas is coming and with your help we would like to make it a very special one for our Service Users through our Christmas and Beyond Appeal. Since last winter we have seen a significant increase in the number of individuals accessing our services, particularly requiring food parcels and the facilities of our Street Alternatives Project. Our Christmas and Beyond Appeal is vital to the continued provision of these services, as well as funding the special extras we offer over the festive period.

Our appeal this year hopes to raise £50,000 to sustain services over the winter period and into 2014.  Our Street Alternatives Project will extend its opening hours to accommodate more individuals through the festive season, while funding is also needed to provide our residential projects and Street Alternatives with celebratory meals at Christmas and New Year. We want to make sure our Service Users can enjoy warmth, entertainment, good food and gifts, just like everybody else hopes for over the festive period.

Once again we will be running our Shoe Box Appeal, inviting you to fill a shoebox with Christmas gifts such as chocolate, toiletries, underwear, treats and warm clothes.  Last year we received many boxes and hope to see the same result this Christmas.  Each year we aim to give our Service Users a special Christmas, one that they will remember and enjoy and we hope our community can help us do that.

Our closing date for receiving Christmas Shoe Boxes is Tuesday 17th December.  This is to ensure that all Christmas Shoe Boxes are distributed throughout our projects prior to Christmas Day.

Please ensure that all food items are within their Use By Date and that shoe boxes are left unsealed to allow staff to check everything prior to distribution.
