Harvest has traditionally been a celebration of food grown on the land but now plays an important role in helping organisations like Aberdeen Cyrenians who provide meals for those who are facing homelessness or extreme hardship.
With your support this Harvest, we will be able to continue providing food parcels to individuals and families who need our help. This is particularly important as we come into the colder months when many are forced to make the very real choice between heating their homes and feeding themselves and their families. Last year we saw an increase of 1,032 food parcels given out compared to 2016, and this year we have seen demand continue to rise.
Food donations also allow us to run our Street Alternatives service. This service is run four days a week by a dedicated team of volunteers who give up their time to prepare, cook and serve meals. Over 5,400 hot meals were provided last year to those sleeping rough or without access to cooking facilities.
Items we particularly need are:
- • Tinned and dried items as these have a long shelf-life and can be easily stored
- • Fresh items such as vegetables, mince, sausages and chicken.
- • Supermarket E vouchers to allow us to purchase fresh items throughout the year at times when donation levels are lower or donate online through
